On paper this is my cuppa: an f/f historical with tropes I enjoy (cross-dressing, secret identity, PTSD and others that are staples of regency romance that I’m not going to spoil). But it left me feeling a bit cold. It isn’t easy to read – the (presumably?) period appropriate prose style and dialogue is fascinating but difficult to sink into, and the head hopping along with confusing pronoun usage for Fleming means it’s difficult to follow who’s speaking (on that note, I really wish Fleming’s gender identity had been explored more).

The only thing I really bought into was the relationship between Fleming and her best friend and commanding officer, so I was
Spoiler delighted when they reconciled - it was the real HEA of the book for me.
