I found this to be a pretty entertaining domestic suspense novel. It was a fast read and I couldn’t wait to see how things played out. However, the writing in this book was not what I’m used to seeing from Mary Kubica. It was juvenile and did not read like it was written by a seasoned, best-selling author. Nevertheless, this was still a good storyline and it was entertaining.

SO many secrets and so much betrayal in this one.

After Jake and Nina have a fight - Jake goes missing. She thinks he left to simmer down after their argument but it's been too long now. Something is definitely amiss.

Nina's friend and coworker believes she may be the last person to see Jake alive, but together with her husband Christian, they decide it's best to keep this to themselves.

I definitely enjoyed this one and the twists were super fun. It wasn't my favorite of hers but for fans - it's worth reading for sure - the secrets and twists and drama make it a riveting page-turner.

Wow! Talk about getting blindsided!

A brilliant thriller to kick off the year with!

Thanks NetGalley and HQ for the ARC! I was delighted to get approved after loving #LocalWomanMissing.

Hope my aesthetic reel for the book does it justice.

Synopsis -

Jake Hayes, the reputed neurosurgeon is missing. Nina, his wife is worried, when days later, he isn’t back home and initially she only thought he was giving her some space, after their recent nasty fight. Lily, the best friend and colleague of Nina, believes she might be the last one who saw Jake. Together with her husband Christian, they are determined to keep her encounter with him a secret. Can they get away with it all?

Review –

This is my second book by Kubica and man! She has moved to the top of the list of my favorite thriller authors!

The choice of the POVs of Nina and Christian was really smart! While Jake’s disappearance takes the spotlight, the background of these couples, the states of their marriage, work life and friendships become equally important to the storyline.

The first half of the book is slow burn – steadily building up the tension and momentum for what is to occur. As theories begin to form in my mind, I wondered who is to be trusted and who is not. But the second half is an adrenaline spiking page turner!

Kubica pulls a rabbit out of a hat kind of trick, as she completely took me by surprise

This was another quick read for me. This book came out this year and I saw it and decided to read it. It looked pretty good and it definitely lived up to the expectations. It was fast paced and super mysterious. There were a few twists that had me shocked that I did not guess. And the ending literally had me so shocked I did not even think that was possible. I would honestly suggest going into this book blind too mainly because I feel like a lot of what happens in the majority of the book is described in the little paragraphs in the back of the book. This was also a pretty short thriller it was just over 300 pages so I got through it fast! I would definitely recommend if you want a quick and thrilling thriller!
