I can say that now I get it. I've tried getting into Discworld two times before. Both with the Color of Magic and not liked it. This was the final attempt for me and it clicked. I have a hard time keeping an interest in comedy books. Normally I like them but I don't have the urge to keep reading. And it was the same here in the beginning. But I started seeing details that hinted at more depth in the story. And the longer it went on the more of them I saw. Characters revealed more depth beyond their comedic persons and the story was still silly. But some commentary were starting to show about different aspects of society. This I could get behind in a better fashion.
So as I did with a different book I read at the same time I shifted my perspective of the book and got a lot more enjoyment out of it. And I can happily sayd that I'll return to the guards series on the Disc

Absolutely brilliant! Up there as one of my favourite Discworld books so far. Fantastically funny and just incredibly well written throughout.

A good continuation of the series. Witty and funny as usual. I wasn't a massive fan of the detective like themes, but that's just what I enjoy.
