This was an interesting book. I just wish that we got some of the mother’s story from her perspective. The story is told in first person from the boy’s perspective, but I want to hear what the mother is thinking and her thought process as the events unfold, too. Otherwise, a quiet, thought-provoking book.

This is a really important story. The Blackfoot people span international borders- residing in both the US and Canada. A mother and son are traveling from their reserve in Canada to see their daughter/sister in Salt Lake City. They literally get stuck between borders because when asked what their citizenship the mother responds "Blackfoot". While this statement is 100% true, the knit-picky legalities of both countries required the answer to be either "Canadian" or "American" but since the "Blackfoot" people are both and neither, it makes it a hard question to answer. Neither border lets them pass either into America or back to Canada and they spend a few nights living in limbo out of their car. This graphic novel is more of a novella in length and subject but it is also so important because it's a beautiful little vignette that can help teach important lessons and open people's minds to the experience of some Native peoples.
