I initially picked up this book because medical school (and life) had been stressing me out, and I wanted something easy to skim through. but oh boy, was I wrong! It turned out to be an unexpected five-star read. (thank you, universe!)

where do I even begin to describe how much I loved and enjoyed it?

teenage sapphic love is so sweet—the eagerness, the naivety, the youth, the anxiety, the excitement, the nervousness, the discovery—it's all so vivid. oh, to be a sapphic teenager experiencing it all!

Minor Spoilers Follow (they are hidden)

I have mixed feelings about this book. Let me start with the only negative point I found, which is why I initially considered giving it four stars instead of five. The pacing was very slow. While I found the description of S&S, aka D&D, fascinating because I had only heard of it before and didn't know exactly what it was, I wished the story moved a bit faster with fewer descriptions of the world, both real and fictional.

TW of the paragraph below:
SpoilerAnxiety Disorder

Spoiler Putting that aside, I realized over time how much I relate to the character in terms of anxiety and overthinking. It was almost like a personal attack! Seeing myself in the thoughts of this young girl made me feel less alone. At first, it was uncomfortable and strange to acknowledge that what I was reading had happened to me as well. But it was uplifting to see a young girl being brave and putting herself first, even in seemingly small things. It didn't make me feel irrational for having similar thoughts. Instead, I felt understood. The most significant takeaway from the book was that the people you choose to surround yourself with reflect a large part of who you are.

At this point, I have to say how much I hated Chris and his "friends." They reminded me of how high school was, where everyone seemed ready to tear you apart at any moment. Their behavior made me incredibly uncomfortable and furious! I almost wanted to slap them through my phone. I found myself scoffing the entire time I read their interactions.

Despite this, I gave the book five stars because I absolutely loved Fran! She wasn't in every chapter, but her squeaky voice and overflowing emotions were so delightful that she brought joy to every scene she was in.

I highly recommend this book if you're looking for a light romance with a journey of sexual identity exploration at a young age.

I got in an all girls tabletop campaign and had my first kiss whilst reading this book. I can't attribute these events directly to the book but it feel like it definitely acted as a good luck charm.

this is really cute I enjoyed it a lot!

I like how it developed her and Ify’s friendship as well as the romance (and tbh it’s more about her figuring herself out than a romance). The friend group was interesting and I liked their game plot too. Her boyfriend was annoying but also it was like a teen relationship where they're basically boyfriendgirlfriend in name only, because she doesn't really have other friends..
