A really deep and thoughtfully done inspection of what these women went through. However it could have been half of a quarter as long and had the same amount of information. Also, the constant use of girls for grown women drove me a little wild.

Outstanding. Well-written, compelling, but incredibly sad. One of those books we should all read in order to truly understand the horrors of the 20th century industrial US, and to honor the lives and work of the women behind so many of today's workplace safety laws.

I love a story about workers rights and holding corporations accountable. This book was hard to read because of all the tragedies that the dial painters suffered being told in great detail, but it’s clearly such an important story. I’m surprised that I had never heard of anything that happened in this book before and I think knowledge about what happened to them should be much more widespread because it was clearly an important part of American history around workers rights. The writing itself was sometimes hard to follow because it jumped around a lot and had a lot of timelines being talked about all at once. But still such a great story, and I liked how it was told with a focus on the women themselves who suffered.

Incredibly well written non-fiction. It felt like I was listening to a narrative story, which was very engaging. Such care and beauty was taken to tell the stories of these women and what they went through. I loved being able to learn about them personally in addition to the facts of the series of events leading up to and during the court cases against the dial companies. Very very well done and important to know about America's history.

This story is told in 3 parts, the first part is very information forward and reads like a college paper with little emotional draw and very repetitive information because there are so many women who were affected. The 2nd part is where the story picks up and starts to be more of a narrative of what happened. For this reason this book really is an extraordinary recounting of what happened and the neglagence that these women faced. Highly recommend this read.

Great prose. Personally wish it went into more detail about legal and court proceedings but what was included was very good.
