I rate this book a solid 3.5 stars. I'm rating it as such because I had a little bit of a hard time getting into it. I feel like the plot of a girl crushing over a guy in a high school setting is a little over used in YA books. However, I did enjoy the building romance between Dan and Sarah. For this being an alien book, Stringer did an awesome job making the aliens unique from what we're used to. I liked that they weren't anything pretty to look at and that they weren't typical green aliens. I also liked the dreams Sarah kept having with the colors, though, I wish that they could have shown more depth or clues as to who and what Sarah is. I felt like Sarah was a little too oblivious at times to the clues around her which drove me a little nuts. Personally, I had a hard time getting into this book up until Sarah lands on Verindon. I felt like she had more meaning there and her character really just blossomed. Not to mention that that whole world was just so unique. For as much detail that was in the prior part of the book, I felt like there could have been more detail when she landed in Verindon, even though there's books that follow.. the writing just felt a little rushed to me in the ending. Oh and I loved Mr. Hatchet, even though he's a giant grump! Overall this was a really fun, light read!

Sarah attends a prestigious school where most of the students are heirs to their family fortunes. Sarah is the odd one out with her poor, single father. She survives school with her best friend Jillian and her secret crush on a boy called Dan.
The story starts out like a normal high school YA book, but there are glimpses of something odd going on in the background. The story becomes quite fast-paced and I read on to find out exactly what was going on.
I was vaguely disappointed by the fact a book by an Australian author was set in the US, but I soon forgot about it once I got into the story.
I like stories with a fantasy or sci-fi twist to them and this one didn't disappoint. The blurb doesn't give away the sci-fi element of the story, but if you enjoy that sort of thing, you'll probably enjoy this book.
Time to check out if Book 2 is just as good.
