Pretty sure this has been one of my favorite books displaying marriage that I've read my entire life. Perhaps it was the use of personal letters - the language was like poetry - or the depth of devotion that was so apparent in both husband and wife being highlighted. I think the sacrifice each couple made for the other, and for Christ, was the element in each marriage that truly reflected the love of Jesus and therefore made it strong. Being on the brink of marriage myself when reading this book stirred something in me: the grit to weather storms with joy and to invest in my marriage the same devotion I invest in my relationship with God. One of my favorite tidbits was the inscription William Bryan made on his wife's ring when they finally got married after a four-year engagement, "Won 1880/One 1884". That truly sums up the marriage of these amazing men and women, they understood ONENESS.

Read this book.
