Kariba is the story of a girl found as a baby in a secret hidden village, home of the river god. She does not know why she understands the river, and does not know she was found, and calls her human father her dad.
Inspired by mythologies of the Zambezi River in Tonga, and the world largest dam, Kariba, which, as the authors say, we don’t have the whole story.
Beautifully drawn, with pirates that are both good and bad, and Europeans who are the same, and the poor villagers caught in the middle of all this, who will lose their homes when the valley floods because of the dam.
Sort of reads like a TinTin story, but with a strong female protagonist. Set in that same time period.

Really compelling story, and beautiful illustrations, but pacing was off and took me out of the story sometimes! Still would recommend!
4.5⭐️
Someone option this for film already.
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical when I saw Caucasian author names since this is supposedly an African tale set in Africa. But wow, I loved every moment of this captivating and enthralling read. There's mystique, there's action, there's emotion, and the character arcs are terrific. Sure, maybe it all seems a bit idealistic but it was exactly I was in the mood for.
The book also touches on issues such as displacement while weaving a rich tale of prophecy and destiny, past and future, as well as strength, courage and self-discovery. The illustrations are vivid and some scenes e.g. the fireflies are exceptionally stunning.
An incredible ad memorable graphic novel!

This is the story of Siku - a girl who is the reincarnation of a God. Her father who found her as an infant warns her not to use her powers, but it becomes more difficult for her to do so. Other native people want her to embrace her gifts, but Siku is unsure. The people building the dam are trying to kill the God. Will Siku accept her destiny before it's too late? #Edelweiss+
A beautifully illustrated story about girl with mythical powers caught between competing interests that would use her, struggling to figure out who to side with and who to hurt. Gripping and satisfying.
