Cat is particularly badass in this one.

i'm trying to get through this but the stories continue to be fairly predictable (even if i like Frost's writing style) and Cat continues to make rather dumb decisions.

"Danger waits on both sides of the grave. . .

Half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her vampire husband Bones have fought for their lives, as well as for their relationship. But just when they've triumphed over the latest battle, Cat's new and unexpected abilities threaten to upset a long-standing balance.

With the mysterious disappearance of vampires, rumors abound that a species war is brewing. A zealot is inciting tensions between the vampires and ghouls, and if these two powerful groups clash, innocent mortals could become collateral damage. Now Cat and Bones are forced to seek help from a dangerous ''ally''--the ghoul queen of New Orleans herself. But the price of her assistance may prove more treacherous than even the threat of a supernatural war--to say nothing of the repercussions Cat never imagined." (From Amazon)

I did not like this book as much as the other ones in the series. I found it a bit more detailed that bogged me down.

Again, I enjoyed the Graphic Audio version of the book better than the book. The last battle seemed to go on forever on the book, and it was so much easier to listen to this adaptation. Cat and Bones are set against a particular sect of ghouls that is killing young vampires and ultimately want to sacrifice Cat. And my favourite vampire Vlad, who knows how to rap, is back!

What a great installment about Cat and Bones! I love how they worked together with Denise and Spade, Vlad, Kira and Mencheres and even Cat's old colleagues. It was a very exciting read, a lot of things happening, and more dangers on Cat and Bones' tails than usual.

I was so sad when Don died, that was really tough for Cat to deal with, but she did come out of it even stronger than before. That's just one of the things I love about this series, the character development and their maturing is excellent, and it all really makes sense.

And there were too many funny quotes to mention, but I have added one or two on my profile page :D

In this installment, we got to know Marie Laveau, and my oh my, I love how strong she is! And she's also so sneaky I'm not sure I would ever be able to trust her.

An interspecies conflict is brewing with a ghoul zealot using Cat’s existence to incite his race to war with the vampires. Cat and Bones are forced to seek help from an unlikely ally, but the price she demands may be too high for them to pay...

Cat & Bones have gotten over their childish angst from the past book and make a good team in this installment. While they will never be my favorite UF couple, it is great to see them find a way to reconcile their individual egos, and the sex scene in Chapter 21 is finally in possession of the emotional connection missing from the infamous chapter 32.

The increasing tensions between the supernatural races makes for a good plot and Marie’s machinations leads to some intense and gripping scenes. Nevertheless, Apollyon is not much of a villain and the final showdown, while action packed, is not as satisfying as it could have been.

Once again it is the secondary cast that truly make this book worth reading. The enigmatic Vlad is officially my favorite and I am so looking forward to his spin-off series. Fabian reveals his inner warrior and there hopefully be more about the ghosts and their abilities in the future. Mencheres and Kira are adorable together and the twist at the end with
SpoilerDon becoming a ghost
left me with a smile on my face, which is always a good way to end a book.

Ooh, ooh, ooh finally one of my favourite series to review! I read non stop throughout the year, roughly a new book every two days, but there are some series that I follow and look forward to above all others and the Cat and Bones - Night Huntress World novels are one of them.

I was hovering over 4 stars, mainly because I thought the book ended rather abruptly and I wouldn't have minded if it were another 20 pages longer. Then I thought it seems a bit mean to mark it down under the reasoning of " I didn't want it to end" so 5 stars it is!

I laughed out loud quite a few times in the reading of this book. I'd forgotten how funny Cat and Bones are. There were a few "Awww" moments too. Now that Cat and Bones have worked out some of their main issues in Destined for an Early Grave, they are in a much, much better place. And in fact, they are now past their over protectiveness stage enough to notice it happening in others. Namely Mencheres and Kira, and Spade and Denise who we met in the spin offs ,as they are in much earlier stages of their own relationships. We see both of those other couples in this book as well as quite a few other blasts from the past which is nice.

There is a sad bit, and I did cry like a baby at one point. There are also some scenes that had me grinning like the village loon, and a great Twilight reference one-liner from Bones!

Oh! and Vlad.. I LOVE that guy! "Nummy, nummy"

This Side of the Grave was a sequel that delivers all you expect from Night Huntreess series. Action, mad schemes and a lot of sexy vampires.

I was glad to see Cat finally maturing. She overgrew her prejudice. Well, almost all of them - she's still slut-shaming like crazy. She even calls herself a tramp whenever she thinks about having sex with her husband. Obviously the-need-to-have-sex = tramp/slut. (duh)

Overall, this might not be my favorite part of the series, but way better then previous book ([b:Destined for an Early Grave|5604848|Destined for an Early Grave (Night Huntress, #4)|Jeaniene Frost|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1315175949s/5604848.jpg|5776219]).
