I've got mixed feelings about this book.

The whole crime solving aspect of the book was REALLY interesting and kept me invested in the story the whole time.  As someone who loves The Naturals (which is a YA series where a group of teens are trying to help the FBI solve cold cases), that was perfect (and it also put me in a mood for a Naturals reread).  The characters were also pretty well-developed in my opinion.

At the same time, though, there were many disgusting/disturbing parts of the book that I didn't like.  There was quite a bit of graphic violence in particular.  (See the content warnings section for a more comprehensive list.)

One other thing: I thought Dr. Lecter would play a more prominent role in the story, but he only made an appearance a handful of times (he was giving major evil mastermind vibes, so I was rather disappointed he didn't play a more prominent role).

I enjoyed this book and the writing was good, I'm intrigued to read the rest of the series but it only gets 3 star as I was disappointed in the story, the details where good but all the way through I was just waiting for more on Hannibal Lecter, this books is not based around Lecter as such and I wasn't too happy about that, hopefully there's more detail in the next one.

Man, this book was crazy. It started out good, but then halfway through or so it got FANTASTIC. The beginning was mostly police investigation and the horrific incidents, then the second half followed and got into the mind of the killer which was done so well. All of the characters were well developed, even to the point of understand and sympathizing with the murderer which was unexpected. Super fast and great read, but definitely not for sensitive readers!

I keep picturing the characters from the TV show, which doesn‘t fit with the descriptions in the book at all.
Maybe reading the books first is better. Still a great read though.

If like me you are coming from the "Hannibal" series and you want to read it as a Hannibal fan, you will be disappointed.
That aside, the book is a page turner and pacing is good.
Overall it's a decent read.
