A struggle to read unfortunately, took me far longer than it should have, the exciting bits were saved until the end and the suspense wasn’t quite there for me personally

I might have rated this book a bit higher had it not been for the quotes on the inside cover getting my hopes up. It made it sound like it was going to be a twist on every page and very action-packed.

The book felt very slow compared to others I've read in the genre. There's a tenseness of a time limit of having to find the missing baby before it's too late but the majority of the book is either sessions with the patients to get to know them, or general wandering about talking to staff. Nothing really picked up until the last 75 pages.

I also wasn't too impressed by the reveal. On a ward where all patients are serial killers and all staff seemingly have power trips, it could genuinely be any one of them. So when you find out who's involved, it's just sort of "oh ok so they did it".

Overall, I'd say it was "ok". Not a bad book in any sense, the plot and writing were very good, but just not what I was led to believe so it left me disappointed.

As a forensic psych nurse, I enjoyed this book. It was relatable given that I work with similar patients who have committed some pretty terrible crimes. Even with my experience, I did not see the ending coming. This book has reminded me to really be aware of my surroundings at work. This author really paints a picture of what it's like working with patient with psychiatric disorders- unpredictable. The setting of the storm, the tower being minimally accessible, away from society is great symbolism for the way we look at pysch patients, like they need to be removed from the public, and that they dark and twisty, sometimes scary. I highly recommend this book.
