Modernist poets are really hit or miss for me, & this one fell right in the middle. Baudelaire’s very early explorations in prose poetry were fascinating in form but dull in content. His one-page or shorter poems were my favorites. Once they stretched onto two pages or more, he lost me.
I feel mixed about this. I didn’t particularly enjoy reading it, but I did appreciate its technique and am glad I read it.

Charles Baudelaire's representation of Paris was truly refreshing in the context of the time it was written in.
