This was fine… I guess…

I liked to see young Bryn fighting for what wants (though it also is an important skill to know when to give up). But everything about this short story felt very shallow. The racism is written so basically and without any real depth. Sure, some people are like that, but it seemed a bit monotonous. I also don’t remember Hocking’s writing stile to be this bad, true I read the series a while ago, but… (Maybe it’s because the translation is better than original?) I didn’t care for the games much, I appreciate it for showing us more of Kanin culture, but… It wasn’t really interesting? I feel like this has a potential but didn’t really deliver (mainly because of being shallow in all regards). The books are certainly better.

P.S. If you are Konstantin Black fan, you might like this one a bit better since he shows up here… I am team Ridley, so… I kind of shipped her with Simon for the first kiss… (thinking about it, Simon might be a bright spot of this story… such a sweet dummy…)

P.P.S. It's for free on wattpad, so that's something...

Really enjoyed reading this again, seeing Bryn when she was younger, before she was sent on her first tracking assignment! Can't wait to reread more!

Really great short story, really enjoyed having these characters when they were younger, and yeah, can't wait to read more of this series!

This takes place before book 1 and it is just what I felt while reading book one which you can see my review there. But I think I enjoyed it a tiny bit more so I will give it a 3 stars.
