I picked up this book because it was written by the author of Pay It Forward, a favorite movie of mine. This story started out as an impossible love story but ended as a dash to freedom and a healing of past wounds.
For my more conservative friends, this book deals with family abuse and does have out of marriage sex but does not contain descriptions of it and I did not find much profanity.
That ending surprised me. I may have even felt a twinge of disappointment at first, but as I pondered on it I realized that the ending was perfect for all the characters involved.

At first I wasn't sure if I liked it but it got better. I was rooting for the relationship but I don't feel like the story was very realistic.

It was a nice little book to read. Some of the characters were not too believable. Something was missing, but I cannot put my finger on it. I enjoyed it though.

This is a new author for me and a book I only picked to fit a challenge. The narrative follow Sebastian and Maria, two people with more than their share of problems. It retells the storyline of West Side Story and therefore Romeo and Juliet. The narrative is well told, the pace is great and the characterisation good. Another author to follow maybe

A quick read, with some interesting plot twists. I was disappointed with the ending, so that's sort of soured me on the whole book.

I liked this book, especially since it was about two broken people trying to find a way to be whole. But... well, I can't quite place the but. There is something missing so the book ends up just kinda okay.

When Sebastian and Maria’s eyes meet one night riding the train, they begin a romance that seems doomed to fail.

I appreciated the depictions of various types of abuse in this book and what I viewed to be as accurate survivors of abuse, however the love story was ridiculous. I get that Sebastian was sheltered, but the constant surprises from Maria just never seemed to throw him for a loop.

I picked this book up because the author also wrote Pay it Forward, which became a sappy movie that I liked but no one else did...Anyhow, this novel was without the same kind of life-affirming (through death) message. It was more like a teenage romance but with some domestic violence thrown in. It was just OK.
