The Yellow Wallpaper was a really engaging short story - I really enjoyed it. The rest of the short stories did seem to get slightly repetitive over time. I did, however, find myself relating to some of the women and the way the men around them spoke about them and femininity. Slightly disheartening considering the fact that these stories were written over a hundred years ago.

The pacing of Gilmans writing is surprisingly modern, and not hard to get through. Her ideas are progressive even for today but there is a lot of emphasis on motherhood which I found excessive.

Charlotte Perkins Gilman is surely an unsung heroine of the feminist movement, eloquently and logically writing stories of women succeeding in all areas of life and proving themselves just as capable, if not more, as any man. The yellow wallpaper has a fantastic thrill of horror, particularly to the modern woman who would have had a similar fate in the 1800s. Each story different but with a care message the same throughout - don't you dare underestimate a woman.
