So unexpectedly good - I literally couldn't put it down! Did still want to punch the king tho.

"Sometimes anger makes us forget how the scales of justice are weighed.

3.5 to 4 STARS...rounding up due to my love of this world.

I was not a big fan of Genevieve in book 1, but she won me over in this followup. My adoration for Sybella has never wavered, and she remained the true bada$$ she has been throughout the series. My only complaints were the choppy/short chapters and the overall hurriedness of the ending.

Even though it did not have the magic of the original trilogy, it was a worthwhile spin-off.

This book should be considered feminist prose. I adored it. It understands me and my struggle and that of so many other women in different stages of life. I would love to thank the author personally for giving me something I will always hold close to my heart.

After my initial confusion in the first book, I'm very glad I decided to read the second book in this duology, "Igniting Darkness." LaFevers's beautifully woven story continues to unfold, creating a world I felt continuously sucked into and wanted to be a part of. I loved the continued development of the characters, especially Genevieve, who I didn’t feel had as much development as Sybella in the first book. I also gained a newfound respect for the king, who I originally thought of as a very static character but who underwent a surprising change that left me shocked. Overall, I think LaFevers's ability to create such dynamic characters was a major reason why I loved this duology so much. Being able to connect with the characters has always been an important aspect for me when looking for a good read, and combined with her beautifully woven plot, it was just so wonderfully written. And the ending?! That was so beautifully done. I couldn’t have imagined a better way to part ways with the characters than feeling happy for them regarding their journey, where it had led them, and where it still might lead them.

A bit too much back stabbing political intrigue, and a bit too intense in a despairing sort of way, but this is good closure to the world the author has created, and the ending is satisfying.

This duology is definitely not as good as the original trilogy. The alternating viewpoints just doesn’t work quite as well. But I do think this was a lot better than the first in the duology. I found the writing stronger and much more engaging.

Let me just say that I am so grateful to have been able to read a snippet of the already great series.
I love that Maraud gets his own chapters, I honestly want to see him find Lucinda a.k.a (genenvieve) again, and although the short snippet only show us how hurt he feels, I really hope he gets to live throughout the rest of the book.
Genevieve: I admit, i understand she is cynical in a lot of aspects, but I really hope she can do more to help Sybella out.
Sybella: these chapters are always my favorite especiqlly because I love how she changes her composure quickly to fit the situations she's in. I think she's grown a lot as a character and has become less cynical than in the previous series.
Overall, I really enjoyed the snippet I was able and if I may get to read the best, I would be so grateful. I am hoping for more chapters on mauraud , for him to reunite with genevieve and that the lovely ladies of saint mortain can save their convent from falling.
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this snippet. I can't wait to read more!
