I loved the humor in this book.  The way the characters interacted was nicely done as well.

When I read this I wasn’t in much of a mood for it but pushed through and ended up really enjoying it.  The plot wasn’t too confusing as some fantasy books can be, but this kept my interest.  It was such an entertaining read.

And the queer rep was better than I was expecting actually.

Really enjoyed this read!! It was such a fun story, and I thought the characters were unique and lovable. It reminded me of a webcomic I used to follow, High Class Homos! I thought it had a good balance of fun and funny moments along with emotional and dark moments as well. The characters felt very fleshed out, and the world was intriguing, I truly enjoyed this book.

This was very fun - excellent prose, entertaining characters that I found myself invested in, good banter and pacing. The romance (and friendship!) between the characters was very cute. I think Gabriel was probably my favorite - I always wanted even more of him interacting with Arthur, and really enjoyed his internal conflict and complexity. (I also found the anachronistic language and occasional modern meme reference to be fun and charming, but I also love things like A Knight's Tale and the Locked Tomb series, so your mileage may vary there.)

As a reader, I loved it, but as a writer, there were many unnecessary dialogue tags that irked me.

Brilliantly written—the novel was able to balance relatable and familiar young adult language while still keeping up with its historical fantasy identity. Very humorous and heartfelt. The romance was very good too—the build-up of tension and desire was excellent and the first kisses had me gasping with delight.

The discussions of sexuality within the novel would actually be helpful for young adults who’ll read this, especially if they’re still figuring out their sexuality or even just learning how to be good allies. This was written with great care and understanding.

I have little knowledge about the milieu, but it didn’t matter since the novel was able to give me most of the context that I needed to understand the historical background of the time.

I appreciate that Bridget is realistic about her relationship with Gwen and that she knows herself enough to know what’ll make her happy. Just because they fancy each other doesn’t mean she’ll throw away years of knighthood training to become Gwen’s lady-in-waiting just so they can be together in secret, especially since they don’t even know each other that well yet.

While Gwen and Gabriel definitely helped Arthur realize that he isn’t a good-for-nothing piece of shit that his father wants him to believe that he is, I noticed that Arthur, Bridget, Sidney, and Agnes impacted the royal siblings a lot more. It’s likely due to the fact that the two of them were sheltered from the world and only knew of their duties and were expected to act in a certain aristocratic way. So it’s good for them too, to learn how to be with people of different social classes and not to treat people in lower rankings like shit, especially since they’re going to be ruling a whole country. It sends a good message to young readers.

I was really looking forward to this book and was let down :( For one, the narrator for Arthur’s chapters was not the most pleasant to listen to. I also couldn’t really discern when this book was supposed to take place in history. I also wasn’t super convinced about the romance between Arthur and Gabriel.

That being said, I LOVED Bridget and Gwendolyn. I honestly would love a whole book just on them. The narrator for Gwen’s chapters was much more captivating and I found myself wanting more Gwen chapters.
