I immediately fell in love with the titular characters and their inner circles. Everyone is complex yet lovable, and the reader is empathetic to their individual struggles. My only critiques would be that the world building lacks some necessary details and the B-plot (especially towards the final act) is a bit predictable. Though it is set in the medieval period, there’s some modern social elements added to make the book more digestible to YA romance readers. I do not mind these changes, but I wished they had been outlined more clearly as it sets the stakes for the characters’ relationships and ambitions. Overall, though, this is a fairly lighthearted, fun read.

A very pleasant and heartfelt read, got through the book quite fast—couldn't put it down! There were a handful of chapters that I found a bit difficult to get through but the earlier chapters I enjoyed immensely. From time to time, I did want to whack Arthur with a wet piece of bread or I was found practically screaming at Gwen in my mind, but the best part was seeing their progression as I ate through each chapter. I will say my favorite character was the cat, Lucifer :)

The ending wasn't what I was expecting but it was a welcome one, a very sweet read and full of romance and very much Gwen & Art not in love.

I wasn't super into this book at first. I found Arthur annoying, and I think part of that was the narrator for his chapters in the audiobook. I was hoping he might go through some character development and I'd like him more, which happened so gradually I didn't even realize it was happening until I was practically crying for him. The book in general has a bit of a slow start and it took me a while to get invested in the characters and get a sense of where the plot was going. The end kind of rushed at me and I found it hard to put down in the last 70%. There is a pretty big tonal shift after that point as well, I didn't expect it to go as dark as it did. I kind of wish this had stayed a bit more lighthearted.

witty and romantic! the first third was a bit slow but the plot and romance kicked in and made it a page turner in the end. a lovely queer historical romance.
