It read like a dime novel from older eras.

Although it is brief and slightly one-dimenosional, it is a heartbreaking about narcissistic abuse and a feminist reimagining of the “Pygmalion” myth is always welcomed.

While I really wanted to love this short story given the subject matter, I just didn’t. I read for joy and this was far to hard hitting to enjoy it.

This was short and maybe not so-sweet, but rather satisfying in how as Galatea
Spoilerreturns to her purest form, she takes with her the very man who refused to consider her anything more than his plaything. She found more agency in stone, than in life.
How absolutely devastating.

I wish there were more of her story. I wish we knew what happened to Paphos. She was only ten and I fear for what she would have had to face alone.

Galatea is a beautiful short story by Madeline Miller, and a nice introduction to her work. It is the first book of hers I have read, and I quite enjoyed it! Even though it is incredibly short, only being 49 pages long (the actual story, not including the afterword and facts about the author pages) it is a very fascinating book that dips its toes into the Greek Mythology aspect. I would definitely recommend if you enjoy Greek Mythology!
