Chess has never been so hot

Seriously this book was so hard to put down. She made chess beyond interesting...yes football ⚽ is played too, but it's mostly chess references and I was living for. His touch her die attitude had me all in.

I loved it!

So I first was introduced to Rina Kent when I read her Thorns Duet (Red Thorns and Black Thorns). I really enjoyed the first one, but the second one I was annoyed with the trope used. Anywho, I did like her writing style, character and relationship building enough to want to check out her other books. I discovered that a lot of her books kind of overlap and characters re-appear. So I thought I’d read them “in order” starting with this one (found the reading order on her website).

Anyways, I wasn’t sure if I would like this one or not. I do enjoy enemies to lovers and bully romances, but high school romances can be hit or miss. Sometimes I like them, sometimes not.

I did very much like this one.

Levi is sexy and dark and broody and overly possessive, which is my go to favorite type of hero. He’s just the right amount of everything and I loved it.

I also enjoyed Astrid’s character too. She’s a strong character and I like the dynamic between her and Levi.

The story was a bit angsty but not overly so.

And the romance was well developed and passionate. I really loved them together.

The only issue is how long I have to wait for Dan’s book. After reading this I realized that he is the same Dan from the Black Thorns book and I’m super excited about that. But at the same time his book is so far away!

Still, I’m really excited to read about the other guys. Rina Kent is a great author. Love how she writes dark romances!

I liked the trope. What i didn’t like was the way Astrid treated Nicole.

Pulls you in from page one. The mysteries are revealed at all the right moments and the story progresses so easily. I fell in love with Astrid and Levi as a couple.

This book is a “i don’t want anything to complicated for my brain and i want to have fun” read, if you are looking for anything more, this is not it.
