So I am definitely NOT in the cult of Morrison. Especially when I have to read about 10 other comics to have any idea what's going on. I can appreciate weird and crazy, but I wish he would just make sense. Every other panel in this I was just going like "What?? Huh?? When did that happen??"

1. I feel like this whole run doesn't really focus on Dick and Damian as much as I wanted it to. They have a little time together to start work - but then it's boom, off to find Bruce Wayne again. And I like Dick not wanting to be Batman, Damian is a little shit but I can't help but give him some slack - but it's always focused on something else besides them. Not to mention you have to read at least 5 other comics to really get the context of what the hell is going on

2. I'm not into this Joker very much. I liked the scene where he's kind of playing with Damian, getting him close enough to does him and take him hostage. Loved that scene But that's about it. He doesn't end up doing much, the same old "gassing the city" but not even a real fight with Batman!

3. Thomas Hurt character is weird, and not cool enough to make up for the fact that it's DUMB. Being a timetraveling satan worshipper who tried to but Batman in a weird little stasis box is DUMB. Shooting Dick Grayson just right to slowly kill him is dumb, even worse is that he wants Damian's soul in exchange for saving him.

4. Art is hit or miss. I liked the painting kind of style going on, but also there's panels where people's foreheads are as big as their chests.

5. I don't get what the hell is happening 70% of the time. IF the story was more interesting and focused on the actual characters, maybe I would be tempted to hunt down and read the other tie-in issues. But they don't make it easy and it's definitely not interesting enough to me to devote the time to.

There is SOME things that are interesting, but mostly I'm writing off this whole run. Dick was Batman for a little while, Damian's become Robin and slowly becoming an actual human being, and Bruce comes back...somehow.

I really enjoyed this finale of Grant Morrison's run on Batman. I like the direction the story has gone, especially at the end, with the introduction of Batman, Inc.

The only reason I've deducted half a star is due to the really off-putting artwork nearly throughout, with a few exceptions. I will say that the two page twenty-something panel fight when Batman returns is one of my favorite ever. I wish that the same artist had been there throughout.

3.5/5.

This was actually pretty enjoyable for the most part. My biggest complaint is that I just really do not like Frazer Irving's art style, and that made enjoying the story that much harder. I enjoyed the ending, though, and the "Batman: The Return" one-shot included here was great--definitely a fan of Finch's artwork.

...And this also wraps up my reading of Morrison's main Batman work (as I only have Gothic to read, now) since I've read Batman: Inc already. Overall it really was a mixed bag. I've heard that Morrison's work is really something that needs to be studied, so I am interested to go back to it all and read it in sequence more slowly and carefully and all at once.

This was deeply chaotic. But I had fun and that's all I really asked for from this series.

It took me a while to get through it because there's something off about the combination of Frazer Irving's art and the colourist on this book. I didn't feel it, which is odd because I'm usually a fan of both Irving and Sinclair's work. Some great and iconic covers by Frank Quitely. The one shot at the end was a redeeming factor.

This was so chaotic it actually made me feel angry after I stopped feeling anxious. Ridiculous. Annoying! Was Commissioner Gordon wearing a dress at some point? Did that happen? I actually wanted The Joker to take a crowbar to everyone, and I'm never on this guy's side.

Awful.
