I do not understand how this book has so many good reviews. I canāt stand any of the characters.
Ā Even before the family ruination/deaths, Nash is the most self righteous asshole. Blaming a literal 15 year old for not reporting her father for embezzlement when heās the one who had the ledger full of proof? Using the term āteeny boppersā.Ā
Clearly the mom and the āuncleā were the actual criminals, her dad is being framed or at least scapegoated.Ā
The miscommunication between the characters, the tortured hero who is actually just a jerk who gives to charity, the āIām so smartā FMC. All of it drove me crazy. Finally had to DNF when weāre forced to read through both Nash AND Emeryās thoughts on The Little Mermaid and how Ariel shouldnāt have changed herself for a man. Give me a break and get on with the story!!

It was so toxic. The whole ādilemmaā was completely unnecessary and confusing, how can I be so far in angewandt and itās not revealed what is going on? Itās really frustrating. Also: the very thought of Emery and Nash ending up together makes me SO sick because thatās just so so toxic. I like enemies to lovers so much but books like this really drag that trope through the mud. Iāve read Darling Venom which is by the same author and itās one of my favorite books ever, so well executed. But this? Idk what went wrong here but itās so poorly written that after over 250 pages I have no interest in continuing, I simply donāt care how itāll end. Thatās really sad because it didnāt have to be that way, the plot itself had a lot of potential.
