I do not understand how this book has so many good reviews. I canā€™t stand any of the characters.
Ā  Even before the family ruination/deaths, Nash is the most self righteous asshole. Blaming a literal 15 year old for not reporting her father for embezzlement when heā€™s the one who had the ledger full of proof? Using the term ā€œteeny boppersā€.Ā
Clearly the mom and the ā€œuncleā€ were the actual criminals, her dad is being framed or at least scapegoated.Ā

The miscommunication between the characters, the tortured hero who is actually just a jerk who gives to charity, the ā€œIā€™m so smartā€ FMC. All of it drove me crazy. Finally had to DNF when weā€™re forced to read through both Nash AND Emeryā€™s thoughts on The Little Mermaid and how Ariel shouldnā€™t have changed herself for a man. Give me a break and get on with the story!!

It was so toxic. The whole ā€œdilemmaā€ was completely unnecessary and confusing, how can I be so far in angewandt and itā€™s not revealed what is going on? Itā€™s really frustrating. Also: the very thought of Emery and Nash ending up together makes me SO sick because thatā€™s just so so toxic. I like enemies to lovers so much but books like this really drag that trope through the mud. Iā€™ve read Darling Venom which is by the same author and itā€™s one of my favorite books ever, so well executed. But this? Idk what went wrong here but itā€™s so poorly written that after over 250 pages I have no interest in continuing, I simply donā€™t care how itā€™ll end. Thatā€™s really sad because it didnā€™t have to be that way, the plot itself had a lot of potential.
