I love that this book doesn't pretend to be anything it isn't. It's a good ol crime novel. It doesn't try to lead you down too many mystery rabbit holes, and it doesn't seem contrived. I'm super picky about this genre, and this was a good one. The characters were well-developed, and I cared about them at the end.

Heart racing, full of twists and chills. This book kept me up.. I physically had heart pounding thoughts and feelings after reading this book. I felt shadows and whispers laying in bed, trying to rest. Definitely one of the better thrillers I have read.

Well this was fun! Easy, quick, intense and thrilling. I didn't even mind the supernatural undertones. Highly recommend the audiobook - it's perfect for walking the dog (if it's not too dark), vacuuming or whatever you like. A good holiday read, too, I bet, even though I've forgotten what holidays are like.
More like this, please.

I was pleasantly surprised by this thriller with a touch of horror. The thing that especially stood out to me was the relationship with the father and his son (as well as the son's relationship with the "imaginary friends" he lives with. A definite recommend for any fans of horror, thrillers, or mysteries.

What I liked:
- The bond between father and son was very present and felt like it was the main arc for them, rather than stopping the bad guy
- The villain, while not present for most of the book, did have a lot of complexity and motives of his own. I loved how the character's emotional instability really came into play at the end
- The pacing was pretty decent throughout. It could get slow at times but it kept me enthralled for most of the story (which is rare for me)
- The horror and suspense was great, especially toward the climax

What I didn't like:
- The ending (epilogue) felt a little sad and unfair as (spoilers: the evil father got what he wanted in the end and there was no finishing arc there)
- The mystery wasn't something we could figure out ourselves. I love when there are hints throughout a story so we can discover it as or before the MC does. In this case, I had no way of knowing who the killer was.

Overall, a highly recommended read. I did give the other book by this author a shot and found it to be a lot more boring, but I'd still recommend keeping an eye on him because he might bring out something great in the future.
