Well, I'll give the author credit: while the premise is creepy (capture-fantasy is not my thing), she managed to make the actual romantic development kind of sweet, all things considered.
She also managed to create yet another monster-shifter-hero that defied my expectations. I saw some other reviewers mention that this book was confusing, and I agree, but the confusion made sense to me? But saying that, I'm really fond of unreliable narrators. If that's not your jam, you'll probably have a hard time with this.
CW: kidnapping, violence, human sex with a monster/cyborg-shifter (M/F)

okay I was expecting a far different book and that's not necessarily a bad thing, I probably liked this one better. However it *did* mess with my expectations enough that it was difficult not to get jarred out of the story periodically.

I very much enjoy this series but I had a difficult time getting into this one. There wasn’t enough character development for me and because of that I didn’t get the relationship progression I like to see. I felt disconnected from their emotions. All that, and I figured out the twist beforehand so when the fallout came I was like, “ok, so, what’s the big deal?”
Like I said, really fun series, just not my favorite

Not ok
I'm ok with a little bit of coercion but ONLY if I feel that the other half is faking being against it. However not for once did I feel that Janet wanted to be with Zeph. He kidnapped her and she repeatedly stated that she wanted to go home. The whole time I was reading this I felt WRONG.
It just didn't feel believable and gave me the creeps.
