My Plan was to read the entire OZ series. I will stop at book 5. Every book is a Lather-Rinse-Repeat. Dorothy gets to a magical land (not always OZ) has to find a way home, usually by finding OZ again, with strange characters that may or may not show their faces in the next book.
Not really my flavor.

Ugh kind of couldn't wait for it to end. No real plot or conflict, just meandering. Polychrome is awesome, though. I remember loving this one as a kid though, so that's unfortunate.

Another wondrous Oz adventure. Baum brings back old characters in a most satisfying way and in a way that children delight in. He truly wrote to make the children happy.

I'm beginning to think I should give up on the series, because I like them less and less each time.

(Pluspunt)
'The Road to Oz' is een kinderboek en ondanks dat ik nu volwassen ben, vind ik L. Frank Baums boeken erg amusant.

(Minpunt)

I find these Oz books by Oz creator L. Frank Baum to be charming and cozy. The Road to Oz is a journey story which starts out with Dorothy lost in Kansas. The roads seem scrambled so she is unable to get home. She meets the Shaggy Man with his "love magnet," as well as several other new eccentric characters. As the travel, they discover they have entered fairyland and seem to be heading in the direction of Oz on foot. There is light danger along the way, but no main villain or conflict. The worst thing that happens to anybody is a temporary head transformation, one character gets a donkey head, another gets a fox head. The Scoodlers who remove their own heads and throw them to attack were a bit threatening, but easily defeated. Once the travelers arrive in Oz, the story devolves into a trotting out of familiar characters (Tin Man, Scarecrow, Ozma) and a few new introductions. Basically Ozma's birthday celebration takes up the final few chapters. The only thing I really enjoyed in that last segment was Santa Clause showing up for the festivities. Really!

These get very, very annoying as the series gets past Book 3 or 4

This is a perfect place to leave the series. Ozma’s birthday party brought back just about every character from the previous books. I may pick up the series again at some point to see if there are any other good entries among the fourteen books but at this point they’re becoming a bit tedious and repetitive.

Ranked from favorite to least up to this point in the series:

1. Ozma of Oz
2. Land of Oz
3. Wizard of Oz
4. Road to Oz*
5. Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz

*I almost rated Road lower than Dorothy and the Wizard because Button Bright was exceedingly annoying and the Shaggy Man was giving me creepy vibes, but I liked the birthday party stuff in the second half of book five better than anything in book 4.
