the story was ok overall and parts of it were inventive and interesting but,,,,

1) i’m so tired of fantasy having a wildly skewed gender ratio. there is literally 1 female main character and 3 female supporting characters, 1 of whom has maybe 5 lines, 1 who has lines for the middle third and then sort of stops being a character, and then 1 who will probably be important in the future but kind of just exists at the moment. it’s almost entirely cool dudes having cool dude epic fantasy quests. i’m in no way exaggerating– outside of that, i only remember like 3 female background characters (one will likely be extremely important in the future but still) lmao

2) there were some really weird writing choices towards the end, where the author just... didn’t write a few scenes that seemed important? like, a character would say something like wow, glad that happened but it wouldn’t be SHOWN. it was so jarring.
