pretty cool and easy read, with a lovely fast moving plot and some loveable characters. it would have been nice to see some female characters with more agency and power also the romance of the protagonists was a little boring as the love at first sight remained as that... it did not really progress (I am an aro cynic leave me be)

A rather interesting piece of genre fiction. Refreshingly organic in its plot progression, but neither was it predictable. Incredibly intense and engaging, staying with you right to the very end.
There were however some instances of telling without showing; the people's love for Shigeru being one of them. But all in all, a very enjoyable read.

I read this a long time ago back when I was a teenager and I remember loving it. Listening to the audiobook as an adult was still really enjoyable but I looked at it with a slightly different lense.
I still think it's well written, and the author certainly paints a picture. I also really liked Takeos relationship with his Otori rescuer Shigeru which for me was the most heart warming part of the series
I didn't really like the main love story as I'm not partial to insta love.
I'm also quite partial to stories set in Japan and I think this aspect was executed very well
