Recently becoming an expat, this book seemed like a must read for me. And I really liked it! Although the cloak and dagger/secrets and lies parts of the book are very far from my expat experience, I can relate to many of the emotions and ideas that inhabit the narrator's thoughts as she leaves the US to live in another country. (The author was an expat for a couple of years.) The novel skips through time, revealing layer after layer of deception and discovery. It was thought-provoking and still a page-turner. A great summer read for anyone, not just expats!

This was a 3.5-star read for me. I read it while on spring break. The book was entertaining and I was curious about how it would all turn out, but it wasn't as enthralling as I'd hoped, given the rave reviews on the cover and front matter. That said, looking over my shoulder and seeing "CIA" and "FBI" made my 13-year-old son want to read it, so even though it's a bit adult for him, I'm letting him have a crack at it now.

This was a thrilling spy novel. Not the typical type though. This one kept me guessing until the end. Thoroughly enjoyed the defined plot and all the effort put into this story.
