This is a re-read and now that I have read more of the cosmere the little bits that nod and hint to other things are actually really fun to notice.  I still love the world building and the magic system but the characters are pretty meh.

Fantastic book! The only issue I had was the way the abuse story was concluded. However, it was a very small part of the book. I'm excited to read the next two in the trilogy.

I'm a fantasy lover, and this is definitely a highlight. There is a lot of physical abuse, war, abandonment and death, as well as gore. The tropes I listed above are quite graphic as well. Overall this book as amazing, and a definite 4.5 stars, and the reason it's not a five star is because I'm used to high stakes, fast paced books such as Percy Jackson. But overall a great read for a rainy day and you've nothing better to do 😁
