"Friends are the family we choose for ourselves." (p. 219)

Triggers:
Details of Suicide, Adult-Minor Relationship Resulting in Pregnancy, Death, Emotional abuse

While the author had a great writing style for telling stories, I felt this book should have come with trigger warnings. There were disturbing and depressing elements to this story.

The main character Arthur was reminiscent of A Sick Day for Amos McGee by Phillip Stead. And then things got darker.
Talk of suicide, an adult-minor relationship resulting in an unplanned pregnancy, daily visits among gravesites, sheesh. And a bittersweet ending.

You will find your heart aching, your lips smiling and your belly laughing. There wasn't a character I did not get attached to. There were a couple of people I wasn't thrilled about, but they were necessary for the storyline. I am looking forward to finishing this journey with these brilliant characters in the next 2 books. Mild swearing (maybe 2 cuss words) Mild sexual content.
