A little bit of mystery, a little bit of romance and a lot of finding out just what sort of person you are. I really enjoyed this book. Well done, Abbie Ruston.

(ps. I have series cover love for this book!)

Unspeakable was a decent read, but a little underwhelming. I enjoyed Megan's relationships with those around her, such as her Mum and Jasmine. The secondary characters could have been fleshed out more, especially Hana and Luke. One aspect I really loved was Megan's struggle with speaking and expressing herself, and her guilt about her best friend's death. I found the mystery/thriller aspect at the end to be a bit sudden and disorienting which I felt didn't really fit with the tone of the rest of the book. But overall, this was a decent, quick read.

*I received an ARC of this book on NetGalley*

I loved this book. Its not the same as most of the other contemporary I’ve read, all cute and fluffy and the worst thing that happens is that someone doesn’t like you back. This book deals with some more serious issues and I think it did it well. I also enjoyed that it was different. It made for a nice change.

I enjoyed the way the book hinted at why Megan doesn’t speak without giving it away right at the start. The information was presented over time, allowing the reader to make their own guesses as to what happened throughout the book.

I cant think of anything bad to say about this book. I really enjoyed it.

4.5 stars. Short review. Just want to express my thoughts.

The book had a slow start, but after that it picked up. Due to something that happened (something we slowly find out page by page) our main character doesn't speak, won't make a sound. The whole not-speaking and the guilt was done so perfectly. I just felt so sad for the poor girl. No one should have had something like this happening to them, no one should carry so much guilt and worry. I had my suspicions on what happened, and also on what really happened, but the end still took me by surprise and I really enjoyed it.

The main girl was interesting. I really liked that her no-speaking was a real thing to her. Nowhere, not even when alone, did she speak or make a sound. But with the coming of a new girl, you see her loosen up, you see her lose a bit of her fear, she is slowly coming to terms with what happened. She has finally found someone she feels that she can trust. And I really loved how they grew to each other.

Jasmine was just wonderful. I loved her, and how instead of demanding our main girl to speak, she just spoke to her. Kept chattering, kept our main girl nearby.
I was so sorry for her with all that happened to her. No one deserves that.

The love between the girls, the confusion of our main character it was all written realistically and I really was intrigued and wanted to know how this would go on.

The ending was fantastic, it had a lot of twists and turns, some revelations and most importantly something that our main character has been searching for.

I would recommend this book to everyone. Looking for a realistic book? A book with LGBT themes, with themes about sorrow and death, about bullying? Then try this one out.

A good read if you like YA and mental health themes. I did predict the ending but at the same time, I really enjoyed how it all came together at the end - the way in which the narrative of the characters was written had me absolutely captured.

I was completely enthralled by this book. Its an amazing story of guilt, friendship, forgiveness and self-discovery.

I think the book was lovely. At times I wasn't sure if it was going to turn into a fight club-esque mystery twist but the suspensful mystery is solved without any supernatural intervention or unbelievable plot twists (which is something I haven't experienced in a while after reading a lot of paranormal and fantasy titles).

Great teen read.

SPOILER ALERT!
Like seriously, at one point I was accusing Megan of being schizophrenic and leaving the notes! I did not suspect him at all and poor Hana! Wow, please read!

A teenager with secrets? Which teen doesn't relate to that? But a teen who's an elective mute with secrets? Interesting...

Megan hasn't spoken in months, to her mother, friends, teachers, the psychiatrist helping her... We know something has happened to her but can't work out what it is. As gradual reveals give clues as to what's happened, it still doesn't bring us any closer to a solution for Megan. But a new friend may help us see inside Megan's mind and bring her out again. In more ways than one.

This YA story is different, our main character has a lot to say, but can only say it in her head (and sometimes on paper). We see the frustrations in her home life as she conducts conversations in her head with her struggling mother who hears none of the words Megan is thinking, only sees the shrugs and tears. As a parent, this was heart-breaking. We also see the implications of Megan's muteness at school - bullying, difficulties in class, with friends.

There's a lot here that could be taken from many teen novels, it's the aspect of the silent narrator that is intriguing.

It's not hard to guess the gist of Megan's problem, though not the details. The ending felt a bit strange to me, though the book had been building up to this conclusion that I just hadn't anticipated. And I wasn't sure I liked the wrapping up of it all.

Still, I did enjoy the idea, and the writing, and Megan's relationship with her sparky new friend Jasmine. This part of the story adds another dimension to the book. There are some achingly sad moments and the language of the teenagers feels authentic and realistic.

Good issue book for discussions as well as private reading.

Despite being so busy, I found it extremely difficult to put this book down. The characters are so vivid and real, and I found myself getting easily annoyed with some because it felt so much like reality, than fiction. I would highly recommend reading this book. It's plot twists are carefully and thoughtfully planned, I just adored this a lot.
