I picked up this e-book because I found out that one of the audiobook narrators that I really enjoy wrote a novel.  I enjoyed this book a lot.  I thought that Nick and Sewanee's story and how they interacted was interesting, because it highlights that the world can be infinite and yet also intimately close. The tale tells the side of an actress turned voice actor/audiobook narrator after an accident who is at the top of her game, but is also at the same time mired down in a rut.

I appreciated the sensitivity and portrayal of vulnerability in a middle aged main character who is nowhere near ready for being put out for pasture, but is dealing with the changes that have been handed to her, with if not grace, at least ownership.

Recommend for those who like contemporary stories about books and the book world.
4 out of 5 stars, and there's some decent spice (2 out of 5).

The only way to read this is with the audiobook. JW is my favorite audiobook narrator and I think she definitely flexed her skills with accents in this one. I read the physical book while I waited for the audiobook on Libby and I just couldn’t get into it. The main character annoyed me, she’s not consistent and is VERY dramatic. The story itself moved slowly. As a book, I can’t say I loved it. But it was still fun to listen to, and had me laughing more than I expected.

3.5 stars overall. The .5 is a bonus strictly because I love her narration.
Spice is a 1/5 ranking. It had some fade to blacks, lots of phone call interruptions, and when it actually did happen it was written in fits and starts or written as a list of actions. Weird.

Pros:
- The characters were extremely lovable
- The grandma story is devastating and felt very real
- The whole narrative had a very sarcastic tone that works for me

Cons:
- I feel like the characters backstory really wasn’t explored very deeply
- There’s a lot of focus on romance and not as much as the characters by themselves
- there are jumps on the story that made it very difficult as an audiobook to follow through
- The email and text messages exchange was very odd and broke the rhythm of the book

Overall, I was expecting a different book from the first pages and it didn’t really work for me

It was just ok for me. A little predictable but I’m a fan of HEA and sometimes that’s just what you need. And Julia’s narration is masterful as always. I did enjoy the glimpse into the lives of those in the audiobook world with the two main characters. Pseudonyms and all

🌶️ you get half a fingering in a memory and lots of audiobook excerpts that don’t actually mean anything. It’s another book that’s out of character for me to read, but I think I’m learning I’ll read anything in audiobook form. I loved the layers in the characters but it also made it hard to connect at first
