This was everything I expected and wanted from a Robin Hobb book! Seeing all the characters evolving in their own way was so satisfying. It is a testament to Hobb’s talent that Malta was one of my most hated characters of all time at the end of the last book, but I absolutely loved her by the end of this book. It was also a joy to see the plot really come into itself (the pacing was a lot better in this instalment). I cannot wait to read Ship of Destiny!

How long has it been since I have read a trilogy where the second book is this good?!

Hobb is incredible, and I love this trilogy for all of it's characters but the women really make it. So much here that you gain on a reread and so much slots into place and is set up for the final book. (more detail to follow when I have time)
