I tried for a long time to come back to this book after setting it down, but I finally set it down for good. After a good first book, this sequel had uninteresting characters, no plot, and there was no point in reading more.

I really enjoyed this one. It is so different from the first one. There are three new main POV's that you follow on top of Vaelin and Vernier, one being a lesbian bad-ass, one being Vaelin's old friend, and the other being a princess. I think the ladies were the more interesting story lines for sure. Lyrna, Reva, Alornis, Dovoka, and Dahrena were all so incredibly interesting to read about and really made this novel for me. I didn't really like the romances that Ryan builds into the story though. They seemed a bit forced and weird, but it's a relatively small part of the overall picture. I'll definitely be reading Queen of Fire whenever I get my hands on it!

Lässähti. Upea aloitusosa, kiinnostavat hahmot, haarautuvat juonen käänteet - tässä toisessa osassa kaikki vain jotenkin kuivui kokoon.

I just loved it - so much not only in terms of characters and world but also emotional investment on my part.

Gonna go with a 4.3 for now...
Really, really liked this far more than I thought I would considering what people have said. Stunning swords & sorcery conclusion, awesome characters and setting, though I had some issues. Lyrna and Reva were way too quick to pick up various different forms of martial prowess. It was kinda jarring, really. Reva was able to put a shaft in someone's neck from a fair distance after like 2 weeks of training (though I will admit there are some passages later that could potentially have me convinced she is (very minor spoiler)). In Lyrna's case it's more spoilery so I'll avoid talking further about it. They were great characters otherwise, though, and I have no qualms about reading Queen of Fire.
Steven Brand is the perfect narrator for Vaelin, and his voice is very easy to listen to, but he's in the narrator-narrator camp (rather than actor-narrator) so it was a bit tough to differentiate voices occasionally.

Don't Believe All The Naysayers
This was a great book! Tower Lord is very well written and the pacing is perfect. All these negative reviews are just upset that the narrative has been expanded to include more characters than just Vaelin. Yes...This includes strong female characters who kick some butt. Why so many complain about then is beyond me because they are excellent additions to the novel. This story is more mature and more tightly woven than Blood Song. The glimpses at the Ally come through his minions and the future of the Realm is in doubt. There are great twists and outstanding plot arcs to be found. If all you want is Vaelin's tale then you may be disappointed. If you want a tightly woven fantasy with great characters and brutal battles, Tower Lord is for you.
