It's a good book! I like how the author explores the concept of the world in depth, with a fair amount of care and research into the implications of the oddities of their world.

An absolute delight!

After reading many heavier books, this felt like a breath of fresh air. The bond between Laurence and Temeraire, dragons in general, and the completely different take on historical fantasy, they all make this book a pleasure to read.

Women are scarce in this book but the few that are there are complete, fleshed out characters and not there just as tokens.

I’d love to read more about especially Emily Roland and Captain Harcouth.

When I heard the premise of “Napoleonic Wars but with dragons” I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed the way Naomi Novik told this story!

Lawrence’s journey from proud and rigid sea captain to reluctant dragon aviator to beloved captain of Temeraire was so delightful to read. When he was offered a return to a ship and Temeraire offered for him to go, it was so heartwarming for Lawrence to reject the offer and call Temeraire more dear than any ship.

I loved the relation between Lawrence and Temeraire, and the way the whole aviator corps was treated in the story. The partnership between dragons and people, the way the battles were described, and how Temeraire’s personality developed made this such an interesting read!
