The Electroclan continues to try and save the world by attacking Hatch's prison island, Hades, in order to save Tara and Torstyn. Once again this book ends in a cliffhanger. Fun read for young teens, but too violent for elementary school.

This was such a heart-wrenching book. It definitely was little more harsher than the previous five, but I really enjoyed it. The ending makes you want to scream and cry and throw the book across the room all at the same time. That didn't stop me from loving this book. I love this series so much and cannot wait for the seventh book.

Once you start the series you must finish it... Now the wait for book 7 to figure out what just happened.

I'm mad. Not only do I have to wait till fall for the last book but it ended with a cliffhanger. Other than the cliffhanger, it was a pretty good book. Yeah I might have screamed my head off because of certain events. But I'll be fine. *eye twitch*

Wow this book had me on the edge of my seat and also played with my heart! The first hundred pages were interesting getting a backstory from Welch and how Hatch came to be who he is. Then the drama between Michael and Taylor totally had me crying out, "No!" So glad everything was resolved quickly. Then the plan to rescue more electric children was crazy and that ENDING! So so curious to know how this series is going to wrap up! I gave this a HIGH 4 star rating.

Another great installment in the Michael Vey series. And the ending.....I don't have words to describe all the emotions I have right now.

As the Fall of Hades is the sixth book in the Michael Vey series, there is little left that I can discuss without there being spoilers. The characters continue to be given little moments to develop, although by the sixth book in a series I feel that we should be able to completely understand these characters' motivations, fears, and actions. I do wish that there had been more development in each previous book because some of the characters still feel very flat.

The pacing in this novel was incongruous and inconsistent. There were climactic scenes that seemed rushed, superfluous scenes that were given too much time and other scenes that worked well with the pacing. Overall though, I felt that the story was better paced that some of the previous books in the series.

The author continues to write the series as if it is actually being written by the now fifteen-year-old protagonist. I believe that tone lends itself well to middle-grade readers, but not necessarily young adult or adult readers who prefer that genre. As it is the author's first young adult or middle-grade series, it seems a bit awkward at times.

I found the story to be enjoyable from a casual reader perspective, once I turned off my critical review brain. It's just a fun, easy read that I think is accessible and enjoyable for a lot of people. I'm interested to see how the author wraps up the storyline in the seventh and final book in the series - The Final Spark.

The Value of a Star: Ratings Explained

What did I read during the summer of 2017? All 7 books in the Michael Vey series. Thanks for asking.

Was that a good use of my reading time? Yep. I've been waiting for the series finish before I start (cliffhangers--I hate them), and with the impeding book 7 release date finally getting near, it was time to jump in.

Richard Paul Evans (you might know him as "The Christmas Box" guy) did something special with Michael Vey. He turned a guy with a physical disability and low self esteem into a hero.

I think that's really cool.

Michael Vey's dad died when he was 8. He and his mom have had to move around a lot. He gets picked on. He has Tourette's syndrome that makes him gulp and twitch--especially when he gets nervous. Michael has to deal with all these things daily...but there's something bigger. He has a secret. No one can know. He can't make his mom move again. He can't hurt anyone else.

Michael Vey is electric.

Like super-power electric.

This is the story of how Michael discovers that "It's not all right to be different. It's freaking awesome."

He's right.

Michael's electrical powers are discovered, and he is forced to make an attempt to rescue his kidnapped mom. His rescue mission kicks off a 7-book adventure around the world making friends, falling in love, becoming a hero, and beating the bad guys.

I didn't love the last book in the series...it ended a flat. There were some significant big reveals that happened in the last few pages, and I felt like things were rushed instead of resolved. But that was one book out of seven, and it's the only negative in an otherwise perfectly enjoyable summer read.

The Michael Vey series is great fun. I recommend it for the young teens it was written for as well as anyone looking for an exciting story free from sex and grown-up language.

Happy Reading!
