We Come With This Place is the story of the author, a Gudanji and Wakaja woman, her family and their land. It’s a story filled with love for the land and for each other. The impact of racism and colonialism, particularly in the form of government policy and legislation, is starkly evident. Violence begets violence but with great effort is overcome. I felt privileged to have read this book and to get an insight into a way of seeing, understanding and remembering, of connecting with the land and with ancestors, which is very different from my own.
