Oh boy, so many things to say here. First of all, this was the first series in over 10 years that I DNF'd (never got past the first book). The writing is mediocre at best, the descriptions are trite and cliche, and it reads like fanfiction written by a middle-schooler. The main character, Feyre, is whiny, unlikable, and overall bland and annoying, she reads like a textbook self-insert mary sue who is the best at everything, except being girly because she's "not like other girls". The plot makes no real sense, and the story takes forever to move forward, usually with more focus on the smutty romance bits than the actual storyline. This story has just taken Katniss from the Hunger Games, poorly reskinned her, and dumped her in a wannabe dark and raunchy beauty and the beast ripoff. I could maybe see how it could be enjoyable for a horned up middle schooler/ early high schooler, but this book is not for anyone who wants actual substance to their stories.

Too many graphic sex scenes, unlikeable protagonist, no plot. While reading this book I felt like the story was just a bed for the characters to *insert sims characters woohooing*. Any plot development was only to add sexual tension. Characters were underdeveloped and poorly written. Constantly contradicting their own characteristics. This book is for horny straight people who want to add plot to their p*rn. Toxic relationship written as romantic and charming. Only read as much as I did because I was young and shocked at the time. Now I'm older and actually processed it. NOT SUITABLE FOR YOUNGER AUDIENCES OR ANYONE UNDER 17. PLEASE LOOK INTO BOOK BEFORR RECOMMENDING OR GIVING IT TO MINOR.

My review is DEFINITELY controversial! I sobbed I wanted to like this series soooo bad!!😭😭😭
Where do I begin? First off let me say the first half 5 starssss!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️When I say I LIVED in this book, I mean it swept me away at a time when I reallyyyy needed to be swept away.
I know most people say the first half wasn’t it, but I wasn’t there for the plot. I was there for the vibes, the atmosphere and the slow burn. It gave me OG Barbie Fairy Vibes. I was imagining Fairytopia.  I forgot I was reading and found myself quite lost in the world. But…thennnn it all got dark.
Spoilerwhen Rhys showed up I was crushed!! I knew how things progressed because I spoiled it for myself earlier (big oops) and after that I couldn’t even enjoy the book. Idk I’m a Tamlin stan all the way. BECAUSE let me say I do NOT endorse toxic men! Rhys is toxic and abusive and idc if he has his reason. The whole wine dancing scenes, an immediate NO! I will not keep reading cause he can’t redeem himself for that. Sexual assault!? Immediate no.
Tamlin yeah had a weird scene with the rite night but honestly that didn’t bother me as much because Feyre was warned it wasn’t him. In my mind that wasn’t him it was the magic. Tamlin is innocent.
I regret buying the first three books because I do not think I’ll continue. I do not like Rhys and never will.
Spoiler
In short, great vibes but I refuse to endorse abusive men/relationships.

For an avid reader, the tropes that seem evident in this first book do not continue throughout the series. This book gave me tons of Twilight vibes which made me very uncomfortable, but that dynamic changes as the series continues! Keep reading!!
