”Hope won’t save you in the end, not when you look into the eyes of the siren queen and she drags all mistakes from these dark depths. Your hope will die in that sound right along with your body.”

After starting this book way back in August, I immediately enjoyed it but somewhere along the line I fell into a major reading slump. Didn't really read for months on end and when I did I just couldn't get into the book because my moods were all over the place. Then 2023 started and somehow I finally ended up being in a better reading mood, and so I decided to pick this story back up again and what do you know?

I was right back where I left off and finished it off in no time. Just couldn't stop reading anymore and even bought the e-book yesterday as well, on top of having a HC copy that I was reading during the day, so that I could finish the book in bed last night haha.

Gods, how I love these characters! Love reading multiple pov's so that you get an overall picture of several types of people, settings, politics, background story/history etc. Loved it so much to be a part of this world again and am sad that I finished and have to wait for the next one now haha.

Did think that some scenes were maybe a bit too easily resolved maybe but it wasn't bothering me though. But I couldn't quite give it the entire 5 stars, but a solid 4 stars is definitely worth it. Maybe even 4,5 when I get around to re-read this book in the future.

The writing, the beautiful quotes, the depth of these characters... I love this series so much already and am so excited to see what's going to happen in the next instalment.

4 Stars

⚔️ The vibes:
  • Pirates
  • sea monster & sirens
  • Multi pov
  • Betrayals
  • Morally gray characters
  • Fade to black

⚔️ My thoughts
The side characters took more of a lead on this one, and I loved to see it. This one was definitely more gory than the first. It had a darker tone than the first and this tone continues darker as the series continues.

⚔️ You know how every fantasy series has a book where everything in the world that can go wrong, goes WRONG? That is this book.

⚔️ The first chapter was INCREDIBLE. and I felt so many feelings. 😭😭😭😭😭. And the rest of the book was a good time too! I felt like it was slow paced- similar to the first book- but I really enjoyed the vibes of this one. The sea, the monsters, the fae, and of course the PIRATES.

⚔️There are several romance plot lines and  I wanted a bit more out of one of the couples. I struggle with soul mates and instalove and this book did have that for sure.

Overall, I still enjoyed this one for all the vibes.

Note- fade to black / vague details ; some language

I loved every minute of this book. Packed to the brim with action, suspense, romance--basically anything you could want in a pirate book. I can't wait for book 3.

I thought this was going to be better since we should be past getting to know the characters, but idk I feel like nothing happened.
Something is off about the writing for me but I can’t place exactly what it is. It’s a good plot though and there’s only one book left so I’ll end up finishing the series but I wish I loved it as much as I wanted to.

This book introduced two new POV, bring it up to five different people which rotated through each chapter. It felt like the two new ones were only introduced to have a romance still going even though Aoife and Declan were separated, it didn’t really add to the plot. I also got lost at points by the time we made it back around to them, it just made the story not flow as well.

I did like the plot still, rescuing Declan and finding the dagger. There were interesting twists at the end, not sure how it will play into the next book, but I’m sure we’ll still have at least these 5 POVs again since the party is separated again.
