I fell completely behind on Donna Grant's Dark Kings series, so decided to start over from the beginning. I opted for the audiobook this go-around but I'm not loving the narration. I do enjoy the characters though. Returning to these early books really highlights the improvements in the author's writing. There were a few plot holes in this one, but they didn't detract from my enjoyment of this part of the story.

Fallon is my favorite kind of hero, the outwardly strong one who's inwardly vulnerable. He's only recently overcome drowning his sorrows in alcohol when he meets Larena, a female Warrior with a goddess inside her. They feel an immediate, almost impossible to resist sexual attraction to each other. Their instant chemistry is one of the reasons I didn't quite love this book as much as the first one in the series; it didn't seem like they had to work very hard to end up in bed together. So, this novel didn't have as much emotional pull for me as I would have liked, but I still enjoyed it quite a bit. I don't usually read Highland romances, but this is a paranormal, which is my favorite genre.

It's a good story but it's definitely one that makes you have to read all the others. There's one storyline in the book that evidently continues from the first book and goes to this book and onto the next.

Is not my favorite book but... Galen is worth it a good reading. The thread of the series is becoming more interesting by the moment and I'm looking forward reading the next,

So this was okay, but I didn't really like it as much as I liked the last one.
I liked getting a little more on plans and how they handle their Warrior's. The addition of the Scroll is intriguing (and the revelation of certain relation's names was also half a surprise but not although I do wonder how that's going to effect things going forward).
There honestly wasn't enough time spent on Fallon and Larena's relationship, IMO. I mean, on Fallon's side, he saw her once, thought about her for awhile and fell in love. Larena took a minute because she kept running away, but their relationship was very insta-lovey and there just wasn't enough time spent on developing it. They went from "I think I like you" to "I love you" to the third act breakup to being married in about 15 seconds. The conflict between them was also so stupid. Like, Fallon pointed out that Larena was being an idiot and she ran away and they both had some very stupid "woe is me I love him/her" moments. Like, just...I could see partially where the conflict was going to be and the fact that it was also glazed over was just annoying. Especially with how little time was spent developing their relationship.
Broc was an interesting character and I do want to know more about him. He clearly doesn't want Dierdre to win and part of me wonders how much he's been helping keep people away.
I know Dierdre's the big bad and the author has definitely set her up to fail but am I the only one that had a problem with the scene between she and Quinn when he's unconscious in her bedroom?Is no one going to talk about the fact that that basically amounts to rape? Disregarding the fact that he was freaking unconscious, but she'd acknowledged he'd refused her previously so...that scene and her continued "you'll join me" just felt wrong to me.

Bk 2, Fallon and Larena. Liked the twists and turns in this story, good guys who might be bad, bad guys who might be good, though you're left hanging in the wait to rescue the third brother.

Really enjoyed Fallon’s story but I did feel the romance was a little rushed in this. The plot gets increasingly better in each book.

Not a bad entry. I'm getting used to the stiltedness of the narrator, but he grows on you. I enjoyed hearing more about the Warriors & Druids. The next book will go on my TBR Mountain.
