Just wow. What a powerful book. While reading I felt like I was one with the characters of the book. Pack. I want to run with them.

It started out strong, but then began to get super depressing and I just couldn't get past the weirdness of the relationships going on. I don't care how strong the trauma bonding, nothing can make the fact that the two main characters were basically mated when one was 10 and the other 16, ok for me. I also didn't like how touchy-feely the younger kid's family was with the older kid. It made me uncomfortable, and nothing that happened really made up for it. It also bothered me how few females there were in it- it seemed unbalanced, especially after one of them died.

I found the book a bit repetitive at points. The characters felt quite flat and two dimensional. Whilst some of the characters were likeable, I found that the main love interest didn't have much about him. The writing was sometimes quite cringeworthy and juvenile, and just full of things that I felt people wouldn't naturally say. I would have loved some more interesting females within this book, Elizabeth was well written but Jessie just seemed to be a plot point to advance the romance. I will say that the author seemed to write grief really well, it was incredibly touching. I also enjoyed the action sequences, they were fast paced and very engaging. A mixed bag for me - I won't carry on with the series but I will try the author's other works!

I really enjoyed this book in the end, it was a lot more romance and less fantasy than I was expecting but that was totally fine. A few small things:
- the pacing is a bit weird... The middle third drags quite a bit and the separation of Ox and Joe feels like it takes forever, while their reunion is super quick and the climactic battle lasts about 10 pages.
- I HATE the blurb on the back of the book, it gives away WAYYY too much.

Besides these two things, I did really enjoy it and will probably pick up book 2.

I loved this so much. This is a pallette cleansing read. I might actually read this again it was so good. This is a Wattpad shifter story grown up. If everything before came to a head like this, it was worth it. Not for everyone, if you can't suspend your disbelief and you don't wanna hurt, don't read this.
