A simple but compelling fantasy with a unique story and characters. There's something magical about this book. BUT oh my goodness, the similes. Seems like every other sentence like has the word like in it. If the author would have spent less time telling us what things are like, we could have been shown how they really are. For this reason alone, I gave it three stars. Because, apart from the similes as abundant as freckles on a Weasley, I really do like this book.

This might be the most beautifully written book I’ve ever read. Its beautiful prose, its simplicity, the sucker punches of messages.

If every book was written like this, the world would be a better place.

Enjoyable read, but not much gained having watched the movie first.
