This is such a cute and involved book. Not only do you get a wonderful adventure but you also get a series of secrets and puzzles and you learn a few magic tricks along the way! Definitely a cute and fast read as an adult, and I KNOW I would've enjoyed this book just as much growing up (it actually reminded me of some of my favorite reads growing up!)

There's an audience for quirky, self-aware kids books (see Lemony Snicket), but it's not me. I kept waiting for it to be more than magic tricks and tongue in cheek narration and smarm, but it didn't happen. I've heard some kids love the style and the hint of puzzles, and though.

I love NPH and I absolutely loved this book! It's a really cute story and I'm looking forward to next stories. Plus, The Other Mr. Vernon is SO David that my heart almost melted!

Magic or tricks? That is Carter's question when he enters the town, Mineral Wells, and sees the acts in the sideshow and meets a magician. He discovers the true magic in tricks with the help of his new friends.

I loved the illustrations, and the whole book was light and fun. I'll definitely read the second book.
