5 stars. With mixed feelings but overall love n appreciation for the book.
I see how it’s science fiction now… Drunk “superheroes” with hemp necklaces and rock band? Yes. I highlighted some things (quotes) so… Worthy. They’re cool stories, I will give it that and also some felt like a highschooler in a creative writing class wrote some lol. This did put me in a bit of a slump
:( boo. But I enjoyed talking about the stories to my mom, because they were just so wonderfully bizarre. My mom said something that I think rings true: “so they’re like fables/tales, something is to be learned and/or understood from them [short stories]”. ALSO - I love how the end ties in the beginning of each of the (longer) short stories!

If you liked Bojack Horseman you have to read this, it’s just as absurd and uplifting as the show.
Also like 90% of the stories in this had at least one line that made me feel like someone shot me in the chest.

With any short story collection, there will be some that you like better than others, and some of these stood out more than others. Overall, it was a quick, witty read, and I enjoyed it! I also loved the title - admittedly that’s why I was drawn to this book in the first place.

I picked this book up because I appreciate what Raphael Bob-Waksberg did with Bojack Horseman. There were gems in here for sure but too many of the short stories fell flat. The theme and vibe of the book were both great, I just felt execution was lacking a bit.
