A great 'base' for archaeology. Incredibly detailed and well informed, plus language that is easy to understand yet not patronising. Would recommend for those with a general interest or beginning in archaeology, yet is still incredibly useful for those who are more advanced.

This was the book we were recommended to buy as a standard text for my undergrad course. It was never actually referred to over the course of my three years--typical of that university: you absolutely need to buy this very very expensive book, which is so essential we will never mention it again--but despite that, this is actually a comprehensive and interesting introduction to all facets of current archaeological practice. This is a slightly older edition now, but it's still a good intro to the field, particularly in terms of archaeological ethics.

I initially got this book for my Archaeology Uncovered class at the unit, but it has proved very useful. I have since used it for my Australian Archaeology, Archaeology in Film and Fiction and History of Archaeology.

Required to read this for school LOL but I loved it! Would recommend it for anyone who is interested in learning what archaeology is really about.
