it’s no secret that Joseph Kenda is my idol. as a forensics student, who is often faced with looking at terrible things, the way Joe handled his cases and the way he talks about them on Homicide Hunter really inspires me. you can tell that he cares about every single case he’s ever taken on, and that’s no different in this book.

personal anecdotes are mixed in with tales from his many cases over the years, and i found myself growing slightly sad when i realised that i was starting to get to the end of the book. i thoroughly enjoyed reading it, and i’d be more than happy to read it over and over again. i recommend it to anyone, regardless of whether they know of Joe Kenda or not, who has any hint of an interest in true crime.

A lot funnier than a book about this subject matter has any right to be, but as someone whose line of work involves dealing with trauma, I know all too well how important humour can be as a coping strategy.  Not that I was all that surprised by the humour, being very familiar with the Homicide Hunter from his various true crime TV series and documentaries.

Very much a good, bad, and the ugly insight into Kenda’s life in law enforcement, with a small helping of what retirement looked like before he ended up on TV.

I really enjoyed this book and I am an avid viewer of his show on ID. This was a fast-paced, informative book and I would recommend it if you enjoy learning about true crime or the inner workings of police work.

More a memoir of a major crimes detective, which does highlight a lot of crimes. I do not watch his show on Discovery, which he mentions, but it was overall an enjoyable listen.

Some of the stories in this book were in the other although that made it kind of fun because I remembered them.

Detective Kenda writes and narrates in a way that makes you feel like you're talking to an old friend.

The story at the very end of the book was my absolute favorite of all time.

Finishing the book always feels like the end of a long conversation with an old friend that you're not quite ready to leave. I want this man to give me life advice. I find his perspective on things oddly comforting.

A really good read and an amazing audiobook narrated by Joe Kenda himself. A wonderful blend between discussing cases he's worked and talking about motivation and other factors that go into homicides.
Also, the author thanked his ghost writer by name in the acknowledgements so that's pretty cool too.
