yaoipaddle's review against another edition
This was my second attempt at reading this book. Last time was a dnf @ 22%.
Maybe I have outgrown this sense of humor but there is nothing delightful in Koul's disparaging and pessimistic mood throughout the entire book. She is so overwhelmingly negative and bitter and it does not improve and her writing displays zero awareness. Everyone she writes about is somehow painted in a negative light without fail. It is exhausting. You will gain nothing from this book.
Also for some reason my edition of the book had the n-word hard r in it multiple times but it seems like on Goodreads it has it censored. Not sure if my edition was how it was originally released. Which if true then what the fuck.
(I did relate to her in speaking abt immigrant life and online harassment but it is not enough to offset all the other shit you have to slog through.)
Graphic: Alcoholism, Body shaming, Cursing, Emotional abuse, Fatphobia, Hate crime, Misogyny, Racial slurs, Racism, Rape, Sexism, Sexual assault, Sexual content, Sexual violence, Violence, Grief, Death of parent, Toxic friendship, Alcohol, and Sexual harassment
