Started off great and by the middle I felt it devolved into schlocky plot points, as opposed to the quiet and insightful introspection I was enjoying.

Well ... this was interesting, one of those books that sneaks up on you. Quite intense with a dark, sombre tone.

There's a line on p192 about 'dragging the metallic taste of sadness all over the ramshackle garden', which for me sums up the book rather well.

I can't really say I enjoyed it, but it was compelling.
