One moment he’s right on the money with a nihilistic outlook of post-war capitalism, the next he’s talking about a literary critique I don’t have the context for. I’m sure if I did it would be cool, but I spent too long feeling lost and skipping a page or two.

In Minima Moralia, there is criticism of mindless recursion within the very composition of text. Adorno critiques life under capitalism and the commodification of relationships, life, and of the modern need for easily understandable prose. I found a lot of difficulty trying to absorb 75% of the book. The 25% I understood consisted of downbeat penetrating commentary on the way we live. Adorno’s essays are remarkably intimate and personal, one cannot help but to feel his hopelessness. A wonderfully negative, challenging worthwhile read that eventually becomes more lucid.
